This collection ties my favorite Hughes poems together with my art in a way that allows my spirit to soar.  It also connects me to the spirit of Mary Ellen Washington Bowers, my maternal grandmother, who was passionate about poetry. She frequently recited poems at her church.  Langston Hughes was her favorite poet.
